iPhone 18 Pro Set to Feature Variable Aperture

The biggest upgrade in the iPhone 18 Pro is not a higher-resolution camera, longer zoom or a new computational photography system. Instead, Apple has introduced a physical variable aperture, giving users control over how much light enters the lens. The feature could improve low-light photography while also offering greater control over depth of field, bringing the iPhone closer to a professional camera experience.

A wider aperture allows more light to reach the sensor, which can help capture more detail and better colors in low-light conditions. It can also create a shallower depth of field, making the subject stand out more clearly from the background. On the other hand, a narrower aperture increases the depth of field, keeping more of the scene in focus. The iPhone 18 Pro can open its aperture as wide as f/1.48.

The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max is priced at $1,299, making both models $100 more expensive than their predecessors.
