The government plans to establish a direct rail link between Panchagarh and Cox’s Bazar, creating an uninterrupted connection between Bangladesh Railway’s eastern and western zones. The project is expected to increase freight and container train operations tenfold while linking Bangladesh to the Trans-Asian Railway Network, strengthening regional trade and improving the movement of passengers and goods.
The route is also expected to benefit tourism, agriculture and businesses by connecting the northern region with Cox’s Bazar’s sea beach. It could enable faster and more affordable transportation of agricultural products, salt, dried fish and other goods, while boosting tourism, railway revenue and high-speed train services across the country.
