Zabeer wins the national round of Stockholm Junior Water Prize, to represent Bangladesh in Sweden

Zabeer Zarif Akhter, a 17-year-old student from St. Joseph Higher Secondary School in Bangladesh, has won the national title in the Stockholm Junior Water Prize competition. His innovative "high voltage plasma water purifier" uses recycled electronic waste to combat water pollution and diseases. Designed for use in flood-prone areas, it effectively removes microbiological contaminants and breaks down organic compounds. Zabeer emphasizes its affordability by utilizing components from discarded electronics like old CRT TVs and mobile batteries, addressing Bangladesh's e-waste issue. He highlights the purifier's eco-friendliness, reducing hazardous emissions, and its potential to operate on solar power to minimize its carbon footprint.
