IUB EEE students secure Silver Award in UK design challenge

A team from Independent University, Bangladesh's (IUB) EEE Department won the Silver Award in the 2023-24 Efficiency for Access Design Challenge, UK, for their solar-powered gear pump, enhancing water pumping efficiency for irrigation. The virtual announcement followed IUB's consecutive Gold wins in 2022 and 2023. The team, comprising Celestine Gomes, Sayed Alam, and Sabrine Islam, developed a project to improve water flow and reduce energy use. Their work, along with three other IUB projects, received USD 4,350 from UK Aid and IKEA Foundation for prototype development. Supervised by Dr. Khosru Mohammad Salim, the projects were developed at IUB’s Green Energy Research Center. The coalition promotes affordable, efficient appliances to enhance global access to clean energy.
