A 105-year-old great-grandmother completes her Stanford degree after 83 years

At 105, Virginia “Ginger” Hislop earned her master's degree from Stanford, 83 years after leaving her program. She began her education in 1936, graduated with a bachelor’s in 1940, and started her master's before pausing to marry George Hislop during WWII. She later had a significant career in Washington state politics, contributing to education. Her son-in-law recently found she had met all requirements for graduation except a now-dropped thesis. On June 16, she received her degree to a standing ovation, remarking, "I’ve waited a long time for this."
