A leaked police dossier has reportedly revealed serious security concerns surrounding the 2026 FIFA World Cup, including alleged terror plots and death threats against players and match officials. Argentina captain Lionel Messi was reportedly among the main targets, with threats surfacing ahead of Argentina’s matches against Jordan and Egypt.
Ahead of the Egypt match, a suspect allegedly posted on X threatening to enter Atlanta Stadium with explosives and kill Messi. Police also received a separate warning claiming that three bombs had been placed in stadium rubbish bins. Authorities carried out an extensive search involving bomb-disposal teams and sniffer dogs, but reportedly found no explosives.
