A 71-year-old Egyptian woman, Sana Abdel Sattar, has memorised the entire Quran despite being unable to read or write. From an early age, she developed a deep connection with the Holy Quran by listening to Quranic recitations on the radio. Her love for the Quran eventually inspired her to begin memorising it.
Her efforts were repeatedly interrupted by various responsibilities and challenges throughout her life. However, she remained committed to her goal and continued her efforts until she completed the memorisation of the entire Quran at the age of 71.
Sana is a resident of Mit Shahala village in the Shohada area of Egypt’s Monufia Governorate. Following the completion of her Hifz, she continues to regularly revise the Quran. According to Egyptian news outlet Masrawy, she reviews approximately five paras of the Quran every day.
As Sana cannot read or write, she memorised the Quran without relying on direct reading from the text. Instead, she learned through listening, memorisation and repeated recitation. Her early exposure to Quranic recitations on the radio played an important role in developing her familiarity with the Quran and supporting her memorisation journey.
Indian Urdu news outlet UNA News also reported on Sana’s journey of memorising the Quran, highlighting her dedication to completing the Hifz at the age of 71.
