Eight-year-old Palestinian girl Fatima Hisham al-Bayouk died on Sunday after succumbing to wounds sustained when Israeli forces shot her in central Gaza on Saturday evening. Her death came amid continued Israeli military attacks across the besieged Gaza Strip despite the ceasefire agreement.
According to the Palestinian news agency SAFA, Fatima was shot in the al-Mazra’a Street area, east of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza. She died from her injuries the following day, adding to the toll of Palestinian children killed amid ongoing violence and reported ceasefire violations.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces continued demolition operations, artillery shelling and heavy gunfire across northern, central and southern Gaza, further endangering civilians already facing widespread destruction, displacement and deteriorating living conditions.
Israeli Forces Carry Out Demolitions and Shelling in Northern Gaza
In northern Gaza, Israeli forces carried out two demolition operations on Sunday in the northern part of the al-Bureij refugee camp, according to local reports. The operations coincided with heavy artillery shelling and intense gunfire from Israeli tanks stationed in the camp’s eastern areas. The renewed attacks threatened residents and added to the destruction in an area repeatedly targeted during military operations. Further demolition activity was reported near the Beit Lahia Sports Club in northern Gaza, where Israeli forces continued destroying structures despite the ceasefire.
The latest developments have heightened concerns among Palestinian families who remain displaced or are attempting to return to their homes and neighbourhoods after months of bombardment and destruction.
Israeli Tanks Shell Khan Younis as Naval Fire Targets Gaza Coast
In southern Gaza, Israeli military vehicles opened heavy fire in areas north and south of Khan Younis, while artillery shelling struck multiple locations across the city. Local reports said two artillery shells landed in central Khan Younis, while another struck the al-Sunna roundabout, placing nearby residential areas at further risk.
Along Gaza’s western coastline, Israeli naval vessels opened heavy fire toward the shores of Gaza City, extending military activity to coastal areas. In northern Gaza City, Israeli ground forces fired illumination flares, while drones reportedly dropped explosive devices east of the city.
The simultaneous military activity across several parts of the Strip has intensified fears among civilians, many of whom continue to face gunfire and shelling despite the ceasefire agreement.
Israeli Military Operations Continue Despite Ceasefire
The latest attacks come despite the ceasefire agreement that took effect on October 10, 2025, which was intended to halt hostilities and provide relief to civilians following the devastating war in Gaza. However, reports of artillery shelling, gunfire, demolitions and attacks involving drones and naval vessels indicate that military operations have continued in several areas of the territory.
Figures attributed to Gaza’s Ministry of Health indicate that Israeli attacks killed 1,547 Palestinians and injured another 5,552 during the period covered by the latest reported statistics cited in the account. For Palestinian families, the continued violence has undermined hopes that the ceasefire would bring lasting security, end the killing and allow displaced residents to return safely to their homes.
The death of Fatima Hisham al-Bayouk, just eight years old, highlights the continuing risks faced by children in Gaza as reported attacks persist despite the ceasefire remaining formally in effect.
